Two wheels and four legs

Cycling

We welcome cyclists and from September 2016 will have a bike rack with for those that want to stop off for refreshments or start and finish their ride at the castle.

We can also fill up water bottles with tap water free of charge, just ask a member of the team.

Cycling is allowed within the castle grounds (our short route is great for toddler trikes and those learning without stabalisers!) but please be mindful of children and dogs playing in the inner bailey area.

Wakefield District Cycle Forum make visits to the castle providing bike clinics and advice to cyclists.

For more info about cycling in the area see below

Pets at Pontefract Castle

Dogs are welcome at Pontefract Castle. The inner bailey path provides a circuit walking route for dog walkers and the trails around the castle are also dog friendly.

Fresh water is available outside the visitor centre for thirsty pets. You will also find several pet parking spaces where you can tie your dog while you order your coffee or tea from the café, which also has an outside seating area.

The housekeeping bit

Pets are not allowed in the café with the exception of assistance animals.

Please keep your dog under control or on a lead and dispose of any dog fouling in any of the bins on site (disposal bags are available to purchase in the shop).

Be aware of any steep drops or areas where dogs can get into difficulty if they are exploring off the leash.

Enjoy your walk!
