Pontefract Castle visitor centre and grounds will be closed to the public from Saturday 21 March, until further notice. We look forward to welcoming you back to Pontefract Castle at the earliest safe opportunity.

While the castle is currently closed, you can continue to discover the extraordinary by visiting the Wakefield Museums & Castles blog HERE, you'll find a whole host of interesting articles to read and fun activities to keep you occupied at home.

We run a packed programme of exciting events and activities throughout the year. From special events that will take you back in time, to activities that everyone – big and small – can join in with, there’s always something happening at the castle!

Keep little minds entertained with our selection of free activity sheets. We run regular craft and activity sessions, including our monthly Castle Crafts for under 5s, plus a massive range of themed activities during the school holidays.
So pop into the Activity Zone at our beautiful new Visitor Centre to discover what’s happening on the day of your visit, or book a place on one of our eerie Dungeon Tours.
